Vehicle Accident Repair and Paint (Multi-Skills – Paint Refinishing and Vehicle Maintenance) Level 1

The Vehicle Accident Repair and Paint (Multi-Skills): Vehicle Maintenance and Paint Refinishing Diploma programme is designed for students wishing to enter into the repair or refinishing side of the motor industry. It is aimed at those who do not work within the industry and wish to gain formal qualifications through a full-time programme of study. You will master the basic repair skills needed for work on various vehicle systems and have an understanding of the related technology.

The programme will provide the basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills required by potential vehicle technicians. Students successfully completing all units of study will have mastered the basic repair skills needed for work on various vehicle systems and have an understanding of the related technology. Assessment is based on external examinations with internal assessment of practical ability.

Practical skills and knowledge are delivered by demonstration and practical assignments in the workshop. Theoretical knowledge is delivered by classroom tuition, guided assignments, ILT, and personal study. In addition to your main study programme you will also engage in activities to develop your English, Maths and employability skills.

Vehicle Maintenance and Paint Refinishing Diploma course units include:

  • Functional Skills

Learners are required to choose units, specific to their needs, across the listed groups above to achieve this Diploma. The Multi-Skilled route for Vehicle Accident Repair allows learners to have the flexibility to develop their knowledge and skills across a variety of specialist areas, preparing them for further studies and to potentially enter into a job role they desire in the future.

Entry Requirements

3 GCSEs (9-1) including English and Maths and an interview.

What Can I Do Next?

Futher study and training to level 2 is recommended. Progession to an Apprenticeship programme is also an option at level 2. Progression to Level 2 in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, Vehicle Inspection or Paint Refinishing.

The careers guidance service has achieved the national quality award for the provision of Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance known as the Quality in Careers Standard. The service is also accredited by the matrix Quality Standard for information, Advice and Guidance.

This is a 16-18 years old study programme only.

All students aged 16-18 on the first day of their course will have their course fully-funded by the government.

Costs of studying

If you are/will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on the 31st August in the calendar year when you begin a programme of study, you DO NOT pay tuition fees, College registration fees or examination/board registration fees. However, there are some courses which have additional costs which could include:

  • equipment costs – such as uniforms, kits, boots, etc.
  • trips and enrichment activities
  • DBS checks (formerly CRB checks)

For students with an identified low household income, there may be financial support available. Bursary awards can help with your course related costs such as travel, books and equipment and much more.

Am I eligible for a bursary?

If you are aged over sixteen and thinking of enrolling on a full or part-time course, you can apply for funding through the College Bursary Fund. Funds will be targeted at students where there is an identified low household income.

The bursary fund cannot assist with any general living costs nor can it be used as an attendance incentive.

Applications to the fund are not normally considered if the household income exceeds £25,000 but may be considered in some instances if the household is experiencing severe financial hardship.

You are advised to read the notes and policies at the beginning of the form and ensure that you provide all the evidence that is required when submitting your application.

When can I apply?

16-18 Bursary Fund applications for courses starting in the 2022/23 academic year will be open from June 1st 2022.

For courses starting in September 2022, applications should be made by 1st November 2022. If you find yourself in financial hardship after this date it is important that you still contact Student Services. Applications received after 1st November will be considered on a pro-rata basis subject to need and the availability of funds.
