Students’ Union

Colchester Institute Students’ Union (CISU) is an autonomous organisation run for students, by students. Their main priority is to represent all students in all matters: welfare, academic and social. Colchester Institute students are automatically members of CISU and are entitled to use Union facilities, create their own clubs and societies and vote and stand in Union elections. Anyone can get involved with any aspect of CISU. Members of the Executive Committee including the President, Vice- President, Events Officer, Equality and Diversity Officer, and the Clubs and Societies Officer are elected positions. See posters around College for details or enquire at the Students’ Union office for more information.

Clubs and societies, depending on interest, have included the International Society, Christian Union, Games Club, Pool Club, and Tennis Table Club.

See them at Freshers’ Fair in September, or visit the Students’ Union.

The Common Room in Colchester has a friendly atmosphere, with music playing, two pool tables, table tennis and a seating area with two flat-screen TVs, showing MTV and Sky. It is the ideal place to meet up between classes and during lunch breaks. The office overlooks the Common Room and is the hub of the Students’ Union. Come here for pool change, NUS Extra cards and to find out more about the Students’ Union. The Students’ Union also supports weekly fitness classes for selfdefence and yoga.

The College at Clacton Church Road Campus has a Student Common Room with TV, pool table and table football and the Thomas Road Campus has a new, large common room area complete with vending machines.

The College at Braintree also has a designated common room area and a Students’ Union office.
