Our Bricklaying courses are delivered by tutors with extensive knowledge of the construction industry and their professional expertise is valued by our students.

There are excellent facilities, with training areas designed to simulate the working environment. Further Education qualifications include nationally recognised BTEC diplomas.

As well as Further Education courses for school leavers and adult (19+ learners), Apprenticeships in brickwork are also available, allowing students to earn while they learn, as well as experiencing first-hand experience in a construction environment and gaining the relevant training and education required to become a successful crafts-person in brickwork and other associated trowel trades.

A career in Brickwork and craft masonry offers a wide range of employment opportunities such as working on new builds and refurbishments. Bricklayers build and repair walls, chimney stacks, tunnel linings and decorative stonework. They might also refurbish brickwork and masonry on restoration projects.

As a bricklayer, your work would include:

  • measuring the work area and setting out the first rows of bricks (courses) and the damp course
  • mixing mortar by hand or with a mechanical mixer
  • laying the bricks on top of each other and applying the mortar with a trowel
  • shaping and trimming bricks using hammers, chisels and power tools
  • checking that courses are straight using water or laser spirit levels and plumb lines
This course has given me the opportunity to develop practical skills. The facilities are good and the lecturers make learning interesting and fun – I haven’t missed a single class.Harvey Osborne - Brickwork Level 3
