Vehicle Inspection and Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Level 2

The Vehicle Inspection and Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair is a practical and engaging study programme designed to motivate and support learners to gain key knowledge and skills required by vehicle maintenance employers, specialising in Light Vehicles. With mandatory requirement for employer engagement, learners get the opportunity to experience the real workplace environment. Practical skills and knowledge are delivered by demonstration and practical assignments in the workshop. Theoretical knowledge is delivered by classroom tuition, guided assignments, Information Learning Technology (ILT), and personal study.

The Vehicle Inspection and Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Level 2 has been designed to enhance the students’ vehicle service and repair skills, knowledge and understanding to level 2. This Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) is ideal for school and college learners aged 16-19, as well as 19+ learners wishing to enter into the Vehicle Maintenance sector of the Automotive Industry. Learners with a keen interest in vehicle maintenance will have the opportunity to develop and enhance their knowledge and skills. This programme will provide continued theoretical knowledge and practical skills required by potential vehicle technicians. Students successfully completing all units of study will have mastered the intermediate mechanical skills needed for work on various vehicle systems and possess an understanding of the related technology.

In addition to your main study programme you will also engage in activities to develop your English, Maths and employability skills.

Entry Requirements
  • 4 GCSEs (9-3) including English and Maths, or Level 1 Functional Skills equivalent, or satisfactory results (Merit/Distinction) in a relevant Level 1 qualification
  • An interview.
What Can I Do Next?

Level 2: A career in the motor vehicle industry, generally at either craft or technician level. Upon achieving this qualification, learners can progress onto further training and education in automotive and engineering subjects including progression onto an Apprenticeship, or continued part-time vocational study to level 3.
