What Will I Learn?

You will support practical knowledge with a range of classroom-based activities including presentations, industry visits and workshops with industry professionals. Units may include customer service and communication skills, safe and secure working environments, reception and restaurant theory, and dealing with bills and payments.

All practical work in College will be undertaken within the College’s front office and restaurant areas. This programme leads to the following qualifications:

  • Diploma in Front of House Reception NVQ Level 2
  • Diploma in Food and Beverage Service NVQ Level 2
  • Develop your English, maths and employability skills
Course Content

This course is delivered through classroom activity, practical work and self-study which will all contribute to your portfolio of evidence, as will presentations, industry visits and visiting speakers. You will also engage in activities to develop your English, maths and employability skills

Front of House – Restaurant and Hospitality Reception Studies NVQ Diploma Level 2 units may include:

  • 70% of your Studies in Practical Sessions
  • Reception and Restaurant Theory
  • Safe and Secure Working Environment
  • Customer Service and Communication Skills
  • Dealing with Bills and Payments
  • Develop your English, maths and employability skills
Entry Requirements
  • 4 GCSEs (9-3) including English and Maths, or Level 1 Functional Skills equivalent, or satisfactory results (Merit/Distinction) in a relevant Level 1 qualification
  • An interview.
Career Opportunities

Immediate employment prospects in reception or food service within restaurants, hotels, leisure centres, conferences and exhibition centres.

Course Progression

Students can progress onto Hospitality Management Supervision – Food Service and Events Level 3 course programme or the advanced Apprenticeship in Hospitality Supervision and Management, followed by the opportunity to enter higher education degree level study.
