Sports Coaching Level 2

This course is designed to give you qualifications and practical skills directly applicable to the sports industry. The main themes of the College Diploma are sports coaching, sports leadership, working with children and fitness instructing.

The course is made up of a diverse range of modules that form the College Level 2 Diploma in Sports Coaching. A variety of learning styles are developed and include formal classroom lessons, group work, presentations, individual tutorials and practical coaching sessions. All students are encouraged to find voluntary work in sports coaching prior to starting the course. In addition to your main programme, you will also engage in GEM and GAP activities to develop your English, maths and employability skills.

Course Content

As the College Diploma is a diverse combination of various awards it is not nationally recognised in its own right (although each individual award is).

  • YMCA Level 1 Award in Fitness and Physical Activity
  • Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Learning in Physical Education and School Sport
  • 1st4sport Level 2 Principles of Coaching
  • Sports Leaders UK Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership
Entry Requirements

4 GCSE’s (grade A* – E) including English (grades 9-3), or satisfactory results in a relevant Level 1 qualification (Merit/Distinction), and an interview. A satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)* check, and an interview.

* Please note there is a charge of £44 for a DBS check.

What Can I Do Next?

Level 3 programme in Sport Coaching or Sport Development, Coaching and Fitness or an apprenticeship. Opportunities for employment are within the sport and recreation sector, particularly in sports facilities, schools, sports coaching organisations and fitness gyms. The modules on the course are recognised nationally in the sport, leisure and recreation field, providing students with very comprehensive curriculum vitaes (CVs).

The Careers Guidance team provides information, careers advice and guidance to students across all campuses. They offer confidential and impartial guidance interviews as well as a daily drop in service.They can provide help and support with a wide range of areas including:

There is well a equipped Careers Centre containing information on careers and courses as well computer guidance software to help students choose and research suitable careers.

The careers guidance service has achieved the national quality award for the provision of Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance known as the Quality in Careers Standard. The service is also accredited by the matrix Quality Standard for information, Advice and Guidance.
