Business Level 3

The course provides a nationally recognised and vocationally specific qualification with which to enter employment or to progress to higher education such as a degree in business and/or management or an associated specialist field. The Business BTEC programme of study includes a variety of types of business activity such as accounting, administration, finance, human resource management and marketing. Students that apply for the Foundation Diploma/Extended Diploma will also have the opportunity to apply to join the Business Career Ready Academy which enables you to gain masterclasses through a programme of guru lectures, business mentoring and a six week internship.

This is part of a national programme – Career Ready UK – and provides exceptional benefits to enhance future employment opportunities.

If you have not yet made an application to study at Colchester Institute then you will need to book onto an Advice Session where you can speak to a course tutor post-results day.

Whilst we cannot guarantee that a place will be available on your preferred choice at this late stage in the application cycle, we will help to get you sorted for September.

What Will I Learn?

Students learn through completing assignments involving investigation and analysis.

The course is delivered through workshops, practical activities and lectures and is supported through individual and group tutorials. In addition to your main study programme you will also engage in activities to develop your English, maths and employability skills.

You will study the Foundation Diploma in year one, followed by the Extended Diploma in year two.

The qualification is achieved through a combination of coursework, exams and controlled assessments. All units must be passed in order to successfully achieve the full qualification.

Entry Requirements
  • 5 GCSEs (9-4) including English and Maths, or satisfactory results (Merit/Distinction) in a relevant level 2 qualification
  • An interview
Career Opportunities

This course offers access to a wide range of careers in business, including junior or managerial roles in human resources, finance, insurance, operations, IT and customer service. Alternatively students may find work as a business advisor, project manager, general manager, investment administrator, bank manager, marketing assistant or public relations officer. Others may start their own businesses.

Course Progression

Students can progress to a range of higher education programmes and professional courses including accounting, law, marketing and personnel management.
