Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Level 2

With the projected demand for skilled construction workers expected to increase considerably year on year for the next decade, the Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Heat Pump Systems Diploma Level 2 is designed to provide learners with the skills and knowledge needed progress towards a career in a industry with recognised skills shortages. This study programme will cover many different areas within RAC and HP systems. These include the scientific principles behind RAC and HP systems, the functions and features of RAC and HP systems and the installation, decommissioning and service and maintenance of RAC and HP systems.

What Will I Learn?

Training within our industry standard workshops, you will work with real-life materials and complete a number of practical tasks as part of the overall qualification. Learners will complete both practical and written assessments including some examinations leading to the completion of the Diploma Level 2. Delivery includes a mixture of lectures, traditional class tuition, practical work, assignments and personal study. In addition to your main study programme you will also engage in activities to develop your English, maths and employability skills. A work skills qualification will also be undertaken.

Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Heat Pump Systems Diploma Level 2 units include:

  • Health and safety in building services engineering
  • Scientific Principles within RAC and HP Systems
  • Apply scientific principles to practical vapour compression systems
  • Functions and features of RAC and HP systems
  • Service and maintain RAC and HP systems
  • Install and commission RAC and HP systems
  • 207 Electrical systems for RAC and HP systems 5
  • Handling fluorinated gases and ozone-depleting substances Category I Personnel
  • Understand how to communicate with others within building services engineering
Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs (9-3), including English and Maths (9-4), and an interview.

What Can I Do Next?

Employment as a Refrigeration and air-conditioning installer (Air-con engineer, HVAC engineer) or Heating and Ventilation Engineer. Course progression opportunities include advanced apprenticeship programmes or further study at level 3.
