Resources – Getting Ready to study Professional and Popular Music at College

The ‘Getting Ready’ list below gives you resources and activities you can do to get ready for when your course starts at College in September. We have picked resources and activities you can access online and we have some suggestions of other resources in the ‘Going Further’ section too.

Getting Ready to study Professional and Popular Music

We recommend that you explore and get familiar with the style of content shown on NPR: https://www.npr.org/music

Consider what you will contribute to the industry and the different avenues you can take to achieve your goals. Research video essays, lessons and vlogs on new horizons in music and music theory. A great example is NYC-based bass player and composer Adam Neely: https://www.youtube.com/user/havic5

Practical learning:

  • Practise pieces and songs, etc. so that you are able to play confidently.
  • Make a log of everything that you would be happy to perform in front of people and then add to that list as they learn more during lockdown.
  • Have a catalogue of pieces that you can perform confidently ready for the start of term.
