Task 1: Sustainability

In today’s word, sustainability is a key requirement for everyone to consider. This is especially true when designing and constructing new buildings.

What is your understanding of what ‘sustainability’ is in construction?
Do you know any buildings that are sustainable?
Research a building that is thought to be sustainable; Where is it? What do people do in the building? What make it sustainable?

Describe the features that make it sustainable and suggest why they work.

Task 2: Professional Careers in Construction

There are many different professional career options in the construction industry ranging from Architect to Civil Engineer, Surveyor to Project Manager.

You may have even thought of one which you may like to do.

What do they do?
What are their specific roles and responsibilities?
Who do they interact with?
How much can they earn?
Why would you like to take this job role?

Research a particular job role that you are interested in and find out the typical qualifications and career progression route.

Going Further to study Construction and the Built Environment

1. CAD (Computer Aided Design)

You will learn how to use CAD on the course (We use AutoCad) but you can have a go at home by loading up ‘Sketchup’. It’s free to use and download: https://www.sketchup.com/
