Plumbing Advanced Apprenticeship

The Plumbing Advanced Apprenticeship is an intensive and practical course designed to give you the relevant knowledge and experience to understand the installation of domestic plumbing systems. Learning at the College through practical and theory sessions is teamed with work-based experience and training to gain the City & Guilds NVQ Diploma in Plumbing and Heating and a Technical Certificate.

Course Content

This advanced course builds on skills completed in the NVQ level 2 in Plumbing. Areas covered include:

  • Designing and Plumbing a System to a Customer’s Specification
  • Specifying Installation Programmes
  • System Installation and Tests
  • Commissioning and De-commissioning of Systems
  • Domestic Gas Training and Assessments

As part of the Apprenticeship framework you will also study Employment Rights and Responsibilities, and Functional Skills Level 2/GCSEs in English and maths, plus ICT.

Entry Requirements

Candidates should have achieved relevant level 2 qualification. Students will need to be dedicated and committed to your study. Students may be required to attend an interview with the Work Based Learning team. Students on this course are required to be employed in a suitable work placement with a plumbing company.

What Can I Do Next?

Following further training, career pathways may include project manager, site supervisor or chartered engineer. Higher education opportunities may include the HNC in Building Services at Colchester Institute.

Starting employment as an apprentice can occur throughout the year however the start-date for attending college for training, where required, might vary depending on the type of apprenticeship and will be communicated post-employment and sign-up.

What will this cost my Business?

Non-levy paying employers will need to contribute 5% of the maximum funding band as published by the Skills Funding Agency for the delivery of training and assessment for their apprenticeship. Levy paying employers will pay the full cost of the agreed funding band using their Digital Apprenticeship account.

Employers with less than 50 employees who are recruiting an apprentice aged 16-18 years old will not be required to pay the contribution fee. Any associated cost to the individual will be made clear at the interview.
