The Adult Learning Shops offer a flexible learning solution for English and mathematics. Learners can enrol on the courses throughout the year and we offer flexible sessions so you can choose to attend those which suit your needs.
Away from the Learning Shop you can continue your learning by using any device – PC, tablet or phone.
These qualifications provide recognition of achievements in reading, writing and communication and number skills in real life situations. They also have a flexible assessment structure that can be adapted to meet the needs of individual students and provide a progression route through to higher achievement. Functional Skills offer progression opportunities for entry to advanced qualifications.
If you are in work and unable to attend the learning shop on regular twice weekly sessions, we can arrange for tutorial based courses which can be accessed from home on any device (phone, PC or tablet) with remote tutor support. Classes are available for learners aged 19 or over. Learners must show an Interest in improving literacy/numeracy skills and gaining a national Level 2 qualification.
City & Guilds Functional Skills Certificate in English
Offered at Level 1 and Level 2 these qualifications are designed to equip you with skills such as comparing the ideas and presentation of texts, writing for a specified audience and purpose, and communicating and adapting language. They’re assessed in three units – Speaking, Listening and Communication; Reading and Writing. They have a flexible learning structure that can be adapted to meet your individual needs and provide a progression route through to higher achievement such as GCSE.
