Brickwork Advanced Apprenticeship

This course is designed to give you the relevant training and education required to become a successful craftsperson in brickwork and associated trowel trades. Learning through practical and theory sessions at the College is teamed with work-based experience and training in order to achieve NVQ Level 3 in Brickwork.

Course Content

NVQ Level 3 in Brickwork

The course teaches complex and decorative brickwork by developing your practical and theoretical skills at the College, together with experience gained in the workplace. Students will need to consider the wider aspects of construction outside their trade area as modules include:

  • Schedules and Specifications
  • Progress Charts
  • Site Supervision
  • Health and Safety

As part of the Apprenticeship framework you will also complete Employment Rights and Responsibilities, and Functional Skills Level 2/GCSEs in English and maths.

Entry Requirements

Successful completion of a relevant level 2 qualification. Candidates should have a strong interest in the area of brickwork. You will need to be dedicated and committed to your study and be responsible for your own learning. You will be required to attend an interview with the Work Based Learning team and be asked to complete basic skills assessments in literacy and numeracy followed by a paper based trade test and have completed an NVQ Level 2 in Brickwork. Students on this course are required to be employed in a suitable work placement with a building company.

What Can I Do Next?

Career pathways may include supervisory, management or technical support roles. Higher education opportunities may include the Certificate of Higher Education in Construction, or Foundation Degree in Construction Management at Colchester Institute.

Starting employment as an apprentice can occur throughout the year however the start-date for attending college for training, where required, might vary depending on the type of apprenticeship and will be communicated post-employment and sign-up.

Employer Information

Our Business Solutions team will work with you to recruit an Apprentice to your business, advertising the vacancy and managing applications, as well as providing a dedicated account manager and personal 1:1 advice and guidance on apprenticeships.

What will this cost my Business?

Non-levy paying employers will need to contribute 5% of the maximum funding band as published by the Skills Funding Agency for the delivery of training and assessment for their apprenticeship. Levy paying employers will pay the full cost of the agreed funding band using their Digital Apprenticeship account.

Employers with less than 50 employees who are recruiting an apprentice aged 16-18 years old will not be required to pay the contribution fee. Any associated cost to the individual will be made clear at the interview.
