What Will I Learn?

This course offers a foundation in art and design processes, methods, and materials while introducing specialist areas such as Fashion, Animation, Fine Art, and Photography. Projects build contextual understanding and encourage personal interpretation, while group activities and exhibitions strengthen communication and presentation skills.

You’ll also develop English, maths, and employability skills to support progression to higher-level study or a career in the Creative Arts sector.

Course Content

Art and Design Level 2 may include:

  • Materials, Processes and Technical Skills
  • Contextual Research
  • Drawing Skills
  • Communication Skills
  • Solving 2D, 3D and time-based Creative Problems
  • Developing and Producing a Personal Project
Entry Requirements
  • 4 GCSEs (9-3), including English and Maths (or Level 1 Functional Skills equivalent) and an Art and Design subject, or satisfactory results (Merit/Distinction) in a relevant Level 1 qualification
  • An interview with a portfolio of artwork
Course Progression

Upon successful completion of the Level 2 Diploma course, you will be eligible to progress on to courses such as; Level 3 Fine Art and Illustration, Level 3 Graphic Design and Branding, Level 3 Photography, Level 3 Arts for Screen & Theatre, Level 3 Concept Art & Animation, or the Level 3 Fashion and Textiles.

Career Opportunities

Alongside creative skills for further study, the Level 2 Diploma helps students build communication, organisation, and confidence for vocational roles such as retail and other customer-facing work.
