Advanced Digital Photography & Studio Practice

This 5 week course is great for people who have some knowledge of digital photography and who are already using their cameras off auto. The programme will guide you through advanced settings on your camera and enable you to shoot and manage RAW files.

The course will be run with access to a dedicated Mac computer suite and a versatile photographic studio. In studio sessions you will be supported to develop an advanced understanding of your DSLR camera through portrait and still life photography; you’ll also have the opportunity to use studio light set-ups. In mac sessions you will be introduced to Adobe Photoshop and learn how to edit RAW files. Some simple post-processing techniques will also be covered.

What do I need to bring?

A Digital SLR camera is essential. You need to have a basic understanding of basic camera settings, using different modes including manual mode and be able to adjust aperture, shutter speed and ISO. For the sessions you should have your camera, spare battery and sufficient space on your memory card. Bring a USB stick to save your edited work.

About the Tutor

The course is run by Mike Klencher. Mike has over 10 years’ experience in teaching adult learner classes in photography subjects. In his own practice he works with digital and film cameras, often combining different processes. He exhibited internationally in the UK, Germany, Italy and Namibia. Mike teaches on various degree courses at the School of Art, University Centre Colchester.
