What Will I Learn?

During the course, you will develop a understanding of core accounting principles and financial processes, providing a strong foundation for progression to the Level 2 AAT Accounting qualification and AAT membership. You’ll study a range of topics such as bookkeeping, financial documentation, and business transactions, alongside developing your numeracy, analytical, and communication skills.

Learning is delivered through classroom-based teaching and industry case studies and activities. It will also include visits to appropriate institutions e.g. The Bank of England and guest speakers from a financial and business background.

Work experience and developing your English and maths skills is an integral and mandatory part of the course.

Course Content

Accounting Level 2 may include:

  • Introduction to Bookkeeping
  • Principles of Bookkeeping Controls
  • Principles of Costing
  • The Business Environment (synoptic)

It is vital that students aiming for accreditation of the AAT Accounting Certificate Level 2 and eventual AAT membership attend all lectures.

In addition, elements of level 3 will be covered during this course.

Pass mark is 70% per unit, graded pass, merit, distinction.

Assessment is achieved by external based exams (4 exams in total)

Entry Requirements
  • 4 GCSEs (9-4), including English Language and Maths
  • An interview
AAT Membership

Students will be required to become student members of the AAT and this needs to be paid at the beginning of the year. For further information on student fees, membership criteria and to undertake the AAT skills check, please visit www.aat.org.uk

Learners who have any criminal or civil convictions, have been subject to a Debt Relief Order, County Court Judgements or have entered into an arrangement with their creditors should contact the AAT to discuss their membership application.

Course Progression

Successful students will be able to progress onto an Apprenticeship or a Full-time programme in order to further their knowledge and skills.
