Teacher Training

The Certificate in Education (Cert Ed) and the Post Graduate Certification in Education (PGCE) are offered on a part-time basis for adults teaching in the post-compulsory sector. These courses have been rewritten to meet the requirements of the new Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS) The Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS) is covered by the first two modules of the Cert Ed at level 4. These courses are all tracked to the new LLUK teacher training standards and validated through the University of Essex. Courses are offered both during the day and evening. It is necessary to have 100 hours teaching each year to undertake these courses.

Teacher Training

The Preparing to Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTTLS) is also offered as the threshhold licence to teach and no teaching is required to undertake this course. This is offered both as a discrete course or integrated into the Cert Ed. There is the option to undertake the Level 5 Certificate of Continuing Education (Teaching Literacy and ESOL) for those who have the Cert Ed/PGCE already and wish to specialise.  Certificates in Supporting Literacy and Numeracy at Level 3 are also offered.
