Skills Bootcamp: Spectator Safety

The Spectator Safety Skills Bootcamp is designed to fast-track learners into paid work within the live events and sports security sector. Developed in partnership with Protac Security, this programme responds directly to employer demand for qualified, competent spectator safety staff across football stadiums and major events.

This flexible bootcamp supports individuals who are unemployed, economically inactive, or seeking additional income to gain the Level 2 Certificate in Spectator Safety, a mandatory qualification for working at many sporting venues. Learners benefit from a blend of professional training, workplace experience, and personal development support, ensuring they are fully prepared for real-world event environments.

On completion, people will be ready to work on a self-employed basis, with guaranteed contract opportunities available through Protac Security and other employers. This programme not only builds technical competence but also confidence, employability, and long-term earning potential.

Course Content

The following will be included in the course:

  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of a spectator safety operative at live events and sporting venues
  • Learn how to manage crowds safely, respond to incidents, and support emergency procedures
  • Develop skills in communication, conflict management, and customer service in high-pressure environments
  • Gain knowledge of safety legislation, stewarding responsibilities, and duty of care
  • Complete supervised workplace training at real sporting and event venues
  • Work towards the Level 2 Certificate in Spectator Safety (competence-based qualification)
  • Build essential employability skills including timekeeping, presentation, teamwork, and professionalism
  • Receive 1:1 coaching and pastoral support to prepare for sustained work and self-employment
Entry Requirements

If you meet these requirements, this course could be *free:

  • Aged 19 or over
  • Live in Essex and meet residency requirements
  • Right to Work in the UK
  • Be willing to work evenings, weekends, and event days
  • Be able to engage in workplace-based learning and assessment
  • This course is suitable for individuals new to the security sector, those seeking additional work, or existing security staff who need spectator safety certification to access further contracts.

5 – 10 weeks (flexible delivery aligned to live event schedules and employment contracts)

Course Progression

On completion of the Spectator Safety Skills Bootcamp, learners will be on the route to become a qualified spectator safety operative

Successful learners will have access to guaranteed paid contracts through Protac Security, with opportunities to work regularly throughout football seasons and major events.

This qualification also supports progression into wider security roles, including stewarding supervision, event management support, and further SIA-related training. As demand for licensed spectator safety staff continues to grow, learners can increase both their earning capacity and long-term employability within the security and events sector.
