Colchester Institute has recently secured a significant new accreditation for its Early Years Childhood Studies degree programmes and is launching three brand new Early degree programmes, commencing in September 2026.
The new programmes are:
- BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies with Graduate Practitioner Status
- Foundation Degree (FdA Early Childhood Studies)
- BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies with Graduate Practitioner Status (Top-Up)
Designed with working professionals in mind, these work-based degrees enable students to just study one day per week while continuing employment or attending placements within early years, childcare or primary school settings. This flexible model allows students to apply academic theory directly to their professional practice, strengthening both their vocational expertise and academic development.
All degrees are awarded by the University of East Anglia (UEA) and carry professional recognition through the Early Childhood Studies Degree Network (ECSDN), ensuring that graduates meet the highest national standards in early years education and care.
The programmes have been developed in close partnership with local employers, Colchester Teacher Training Consortium (CTTC), Advance Teacher Training and sector specialists.
Christine Wagner, Colchester Teacher Training Consortium said, “Providing high-quality study opportunities locally is incredibly important, and this course will help local students build the understanding and confidence needed to work with young children.”
Graduates will be well prepared for a wide range of career pathways, including roles as Early Years Practitioners or Leaders, Family Support or Community Education professionals, progression into primary teaching through postgraduate routes such as PGCE or School Direct, and Nursery or Children’s Centre management.
By introducing BA degrees with Graduate Practitioner Status, Colchester Institute is responding to the sector’s rapidly growing demand for highly qualified practitioners who can promote excellence across early years settings.
Applications for September 2026 entry are now open.
