Apprenticeship Event

On the 5th and 6th of February, Colchester Institute welcomed over 1,350 Year 10 students from seven local schools to its Braintree Campus for an Apprenticeship event designed to showcase career opportunities and the variety of pathways available through Apprenticeships.

The event was made possible through collaborative partnerships between Braintree District Council, Colchester Institute and local schools.

Throughout the day, students took part in sessions, introducing them to Colchester Institute’s wide range of subject areas and apprenticeships routes. The event placed a strong focus on career outcomes and progression routes alongside being able to explore the facilities available at Colchester Institute.

The development and growth of Apprenticeship programmes are vital if the region is to fulfil its ambition of meeting the high demand for skills required to meet economic growth plans, from local people.  Areas in high demand include Engineering, Manufacturing and Construction including the new skills required for modern methods of construction and the development of green skills.

Principal and Chief Executive of Colchester Institute, Alison Andreas said, ‘Events like this are important in helping young people understand the opportunities available to them locally. Apprenticeships are a powerful route into skilled careers, combining high-quality training with real workplace experience. We are committed to supporting young people to take their next steps with confidence.’

Councillor Justin Wrench, Braintree District Council, said: “I’ve been absolutely amazed by what is on offer here at Colchester Institute’s Braintree Campus, from Plumbing, Bricklaying to Media, there are lots of different courses and lots of engaged students. I look forward to seeing many young people and adults alike from within our community apply and start an apprenticeship!”

Colchester Institute continues to work closely with schools, employers and community partners to expand access to education and training opportunities, helping learners of all ages to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to succeed.
