Colchester Institute is proud to announce that they have been awarded the Champion Winner Shield at the inaugural Inter-College Skills Competition held by the Federation of Essex Colleges (FEDEC.)
Endorsed by WorldSkills UK, the competition bought together five Essex Colleges to compete across 10 skills areas through a series of industry standard technical challenges. Participants were assessed under timed conditions in subjects such as Catering, Engineering and Bricklaying.
The Colleges involved included Colchester Institute, Chelmsford College, South Essex College, USP College and Harlow College.
Colchester Institute secured the ‘Overall Champion’ title based on cumulative points achieved across all categories, reflecting the consistently high standard of performance demonstrated by its learners throughout the competition week.

As part of the Inter-College Skills Competition, Colchester Institute proudly hosted the Plumbing final at its Braintree Campus, where Colchester Institute students achieved outstanding success, with Caitlyn Fitzpatrick winning Gold, James Smith taking Silver, and Jayden Lucking securing Bronze.

Across the remaining seven competitions, helping to secure the College’s Overall Champion title, Colchester Institute students brought home an impressive two Golds, three Silvers and four Bronzes.

It was a privilege to host the plumbing final at our Braintree Campus, and it was wonderful to see the level of engagement and commitment shown throughout the event. The FEDEC Inter-College Skills Competition forms part of a wider collaboration with WorldSkills UK through its Local Skills Competitions Endorsement Framework, supporting students in developing the advanced technical and employability skills required by industry.
