Celebrating T Level Week

Colchester Institute is celebrating the exceptional achievements of its first cohort of T Level Students, who completed their studies this summer.

The students, who studied a T Level in Early Years Education, achieved outstanding results, marking an exciting milestone.

26 students achieved a Merit or above and 15 students achieved a Distinction. In addition, 16 students successfully progressed to higher education, securing places at universities. While 10 students moved directly into employment or apprenticeships within their chosen sectors. Overall, all the students exceeded 750-hours in an Early Years industry placement, gaining valuable hands-on experience with employers.

T Levels were introduced in 2020 and are a high-quality technical qualification designed in partnership with employers to provide students with a blend of classroom learning and industry placements. They are seen as a gold-standard alternative to A Levels and apprenticeships.

Among the success stories, student Tiannan Cartwright was recognised with a prestigious Jack Petchey Achievement Award in recognition of her dedication and hard work throughout the course. She completed nearly 1500 hours during her industry placement, a college record and double the requirement.

Joedean Boyle, Area Head for Early Years, said: “We are incredibly proud of our T Level students and their excellent results. Their hard work, alongside the dedication of our staff and support from our industry partners, has set a fantastic benchmark for future cohorts. These results demonstrate the value of T Levels in preparing young people for successful careers.”

This September, the College welcomed new T Level students training in Early Years, Construction and Health, with more courses set to launch in 2026.
