Colchester Institute recently hosted a special event, in partnership with Barclays LifeSkills. The visit offered students a unique opportunity to engage in valuable career-building workshops, as part of the College’s Moving On Up month.
The career focussed workshops consisted of a series of informative talks on essential workplace topics including: interview success, online reputation in the workplace, steps to starting a business, tailoring your CV and using networks. These workshops provided students with practical skills and knowledge to succeed in today’s competitive job market.
In addition to the workshops, the students had the rare and unique opportunity of having the Premiership and Women’s Super League trophies on site. These prestigious trophies, usually displayed at major events and high-profile matches, made this day an unforgettable experience for many at the College. Being able to have the opportunity to get so close, many students were avidly taking photos with the trophies and sharing this experience with family and friends.
Stan, Level 3 Public Services student said, “It was once in a lifetime to see the trophies in person. I hope my team is lifting it next time!”
Barclays LifeSkills had a stand in the Main Reception, providing students and staff who were unable to attend the workshops a chance to learn more about the LifeSkills initiative and the opportunities it offers.
Avid football fan, Gary Horne MBE, Deputy Chief Executive at the College, said: “Colchester Institute is incredibly grateful to Barclays LifeSkills for delivering these invaluable career-building sessions and for bringing the Premiership and Women’s Super League trophies to our campus. These events have provided our students with not only essential skills and insights to help them succeed in the workplace, but also a unique opportunity to be inspired by two of the most prestigious trophies in football. We truly appreciate Barclays’ commitment to supporting our students’ personal and professional development.”
