Complete part-time English Language application form (3-4 hours per week)
Colchester Institute has been teaching EFL and ESOL successfully for 40 years with students achieving pass rates of 90 per cent over the past ten years. Our well qualified and experienced staff teach multi-lingual and mono-lingual groups; some have written high profile EFL course books. Many students come through personal recommendation.
Courses offered include General and Academic English, Cambridge exam courses (PET, FCE, CAE, CPE and IELTS), Trinity TESOL teacher training and summer school from 2012 and citizenship ESOL courses. Students benefit from 3 -18 hours per week and outstanding student support, enrichment activities and excellent computer facilities with free Internet access and a media-resources centre. Our students often continue onto further study at the College in areas such as computing, business, performing arts, fashion and design, tourism, catering and engineering.
The English Language department is a member of English UK and is regularly inspected. In our most recent British Council inspection (May 2008), the quality of the teaching was commended with points of excellence. In 2011, 100% of students who took the Preliminary English Test (PET), First Certificate (FCE) and Proficiency (CPE) examination achieved a certificate.
Our students come from many different backgrounds and study English for a variety of reasons - tourism and travel, for business and commerce, for hotel and catering work, for marketing, for science, for college and university examinations, for settlement and British Citizenship; in short, for success in their careers in work or study.
The International Office organise and deliver a free 2 day orientation programme to prepare students on living and studying in the UK; information provided include health and safety, opening bank account, tour of Colchester town and surrounding areas. The orientation days are a perfect time to meet other international students. The EFL department organise a number of Saturday excursions each year. These include visits to London, Cambridge, Oxford, Greenwich, Norwich, Brighton and trips to see local villages around Colchester.
