Colchester Institute offers a range of training opportunities in dental nursing. All of the courses offered require employer support and employment in a dental practice.
How do I become a dental nurse?
Dental Nurse Apprenticeship programmes are designed to prepare you for work and to develop employability skills and professionalism for working in a dental setting. For applicants interested in a career in dental nursing with no experience this is the ideal opportunity for you. On the Apprenticeship you will complete a course of study called a ‘standard’ which would include a recognised Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing. At the same time you will be employed in a dental practice with a contract of employment with day release to college.
The Dental Nursing Team at Colchester Institute has excellent links with employers in Essex, Suffolk and Hertfordshire and support students aged 16 – 21 in finding employment. We work closely with dental practices and aim to match applicants to suitable workplaces where possible, often in their own local area.
Courses are delivered by a highly qualified team of dental nurse tutors with a range of professional experience and their expertise is valued by our students. Their practical team-based approach to dental nursing ensures a friendly and supportive learning environment. Our excellent facilities include a fully-equipped dental surgery and decontamination suite that simulate work in a real dental practice, where you can learn about a range of dental procedures and techniques.
Already employed as a dental nurse?
If you are already employed as a dental nurse we offer part-time courses and CPD training to allow you to extend your skills and knowledge. For applicants who are already employed as a dental nurse we offer the opportunity to complete the Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing as an evening study course.
If you are a registered dental nurses and aspire to specialise in a particular area in the dental care profession or to become a practice manager there are opportunities with the National Examining Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN), including the Certificate in Oral Health Education.
