Art and Design students exhibit work in city centre

16 Art and Design students from Colchester Institute are showcasing their work in a new public exhibition in the window spaces of the former Debenhams store in Colchester city centre.

The exhibition presents work by students studying Graphic Design & Communication, Concept Art & Animation, Fine Art, Photography and Fashion Design. The display includes fashion, comic strips, photography, 3D character designs, props and sculptures, highlighting the creativity and talent of Colchester Institute’s students.

The exhibition has been delivered in partnership with Creative Colchester and Culver Square, creating a space for students and local arts organisations to exhibit their work. The project also involved students from Colchester Institute’s Carpentry and Joinery courses who adapted the former retail display windows.

David Hutt, Area Head of Art & Design at Colchester Institute, said, “It is fantastic for our students to have the opportunity to present their work in such a high-profile public setting. Exhibiting in this way gives them real-world experience, helping to build confidence in their abilities and encouraging them to see themselves as emerging creative professionals.”

Foundation Diploma in Art & Design student Amelie Amos said, “It felt very rewarding to have my work in a public space and made me proud of what I accomplished through the Art Foundation.”
