University Centre Colchester | Students’ Union

In your first few days as a University Centre Colchester student, you’ll probably come across the Students’ Union (SU). The Students’ Union exists to represent you.

When you enrol on to your programme, you will automatically become a member of the SU, which means you are entitled to vote and stand to run in Union elections, join an SU club or society, or even start your own. Throughout the year, the SU organises activities and trips for students to enjoy.

You’ll have free use of the campus gym, which is stacked full of the latest TechnoGym equipment, and benefit from regular discounts at our on-site hair and beauty salons.

The Student Unions acts as a voice for our members and is devoted to their educational interests and welfare. University Centre Colchester provides the Student Union with funds to help meet its objects as set out below.

The Student Union aims to advance the education of students at University Centre Colchester for the public benefit by:

  • Promoting the interests and welfare of students at University Centre Colchester during their course of study and representing, supporting and advising students;
  • Being the recognised representative channel between students and University Centre Colchester and any other organisation outside University Centre Colchester;

  • Providing social, cultural, sporting and recreational activities and forums for discussions and debate for the personal development of our students.

Clubs and Societies

University Centre Colchester Clubs and Societies are run by Student Union members for University Centre Colchester students and are usually led and coordinated by Student Union committee members.

All Clubs and Societies must be approved by the University Centre Colchester Student Union President in order to be formally recognised and be able to apply for funding and support.

For more details on how to propose a new club or society please visit the UCC Student Union Moodle page.

All students aged eighteen (18) and over who are registered on a higher education course at University Centre Colchester, and who have not opted out of membership, automatically become members at the point of registration on their programme of study.

Membership automatically ends if:

  • A member stops being a student;
  •  A member gives written notice that they do not want to be a member, in line with the schedules;

  • In the case of members who are not Trustees, a decision is made to remove a member from membership under the Student Expectations and codes of conduct.

Members can use our facilities and take part in our educational, social, sporting and cultural activities.

Members can speak and vote at our meetings, nominate other members, stand and vote in our elections, and hold office in clubs and societies.
