I have applied for a course with the College

Before booking an Advice Session you must upload evidence of your results!

First thing on GCSE results day, we will send you an email with a link to sign into your account and do this.

Once you have successfully uploaded all of the required information, a member of the teaching team will review these against the published entry criteria for your course and you will receive notification of their decision and your next steps by email.

In some cases, teaching staff may need to call you to discuss your grades, so please keep your phone with you and be ready to answer any calls (this may come from a withheld number, or No Caller ID or it will start with 01206 712***).

This might not be on the same day as your grades are uploaded as it will be very busy with lots of results coming in for staff to look at so please don’t worry if you don’t hear straight away – keep checking this email account.

If you have met the priority deadline this will be done on or by Tuesday 30th August. Later uploads will be checked on or by Friday 2nd September.

I have uploaded my results – what do I do next?

Once you have uploaded your results please wait until your confirmation email from us. Once received, please use the drop-down menu below to read the information relevant to you and then book advice sessions if required.

Advice Sessions are separate to tutors checking results and booking an advice session before receiving your confirmation email will not speed up this process.

My exam results meet the entry criteria for the course

If your exam results meet the published entry criteria for the course then upon receipt of your email confirming your place please follow the instructions and complete your enrolment.

You will not need to attend an Advice Session unless:

  • You have been instructed to by a tutor upon subsequent to you uploading your results

or

  • You have uploaded your results but would like to change your course to another subject area
My exam results were not as expected

What if you haven’t met the entry criteria for your chosen course?

If you have already applied for a full-time course with Colchester Institute but don’t think your GCSE results will meet the entry requirements, please don’t panic!

You are strongly advised to still upload your results by the guaranteed deadline of 2pm on Friday 26th August as some courses have different levels available. These will still be reviewed by teaching staff who will email you with your next steps.

Please make sure you regularly check your emails, including your junk folder. Remember, many areas have different course levels so there might still be another option open to you.

Please still upload your results and wait for a decision before booking on an advice sessionWe will not be able to make the final decision on your course offer until you have uploaded your results.

I want to change my subject area

If you are certain that you don’t want to carry on with your first choice you should book an advice session appointment for your new subject choice using the appointment calendar which will appear below here from 08.30am on Thursday 25th August.

What do I do next?

As soon as bookings have opened, you will be able to use the appointment calendar to book an advice session. On the day you will need to bring evidence of your GCSE results with you.

I have not made an application

Advice Sessions will be available for those who are looking to start a full-time further education course or Apprenticeship with us in September 2022*.

These will take place from GCSE Results Day on Thursday 25th August 2022, at both our Colchester and Braintree campuses and will be available to book on this page from 08:30am on Thursday 25th August.

*August Advice Day Sessions are not open to those about to start year 10 or 11 and are looking to start with us in 2023 or 24. If you are looking to start, or are a parent/guardian of a learner looking to start, in September 2023 or 2024, then bookings for our Autumn Open Events can be made here.

Book your Advice Session Appointment

Please ensure that you arrive 10-15 minutes before the start of your scheduled appointment in order to sign in.

If you wish to attend an advice session then you must book using the appointment calendar. If you turn up after your appointment was scheduled to finish or miss your appointment, then you will have to book a new appointment, which may not be on the same day depending on demand. Appointments are limited this year. If you are unable to attend your appointment please let us know by contacting events@colchester.ac.uk or calling 01206 712000 so that we can reschedule or cancel your appointment and allow another learner to book onto it.
