School Leavers Advice Sessions

Due to the current COVID 19 situation, we have needed to adapt our traditional post-GCSE results advice day process for this academic year.

How will it work?

If you wish to attend an advice session then you must book using the appointment calendar.

To ensure social distancing you will only be permitted to bring one guest with you. Please stick to this to prevent the need to turn your guests away. Unfortunately, you will not be able to bring additional children to the appointment.

Lets get started!

So that we can help you to get sorted for September please click on most appropriate button below.

Exam results not as expected?

If you have already applied for a full-time course with Colchester Institute but don’t think your GCSE results will meet the entry requirements, please don’t panic!

First thing on GCSE results day, we will send you an email with a link to sign into your account where you must upload evidence of your results.

Please make sure you regularly check your emails, including your junk folder.

Remember, many areas have different course levels so there might still be another option open to you.

Please still upload your results and wait for a decision before booking on an advice session.

We will not be able to make the final decision on your course offer until you have uploaded your results.

How to upload your results

Stage 1

On GCSE Results Day, we will send you an email with a link to sign into your account and upload the two things below.

It will be much easier if you get ready for this in advance as GCSE results day will be very busy and could be stressful.

  1. A photograph of yourself that will be printed on your ID card.

You are strongly advised to prepare for this by selecting a suitable photo now and saving it on the device that you will use to start your enrolment, this could be your phone, laptop or tablet.

This photo must show your face looking into the camera, with no hat or hood and close enough to take up most of the image, see these examples.

  1. Evidence of your exams results, this will include this year’s results, and other exams from previous years.

This applies to all applicants even if you have achieved your qualifications in previous years or been a student with us in the past.

If you already have exam results dig these out now and take photographs and save them on your device so that you are ready to upload them.

If you are waiting for results, as soon as you get them you must take a photo or screenshot of all the information, subjects and grades, and save this on your phone / device.

When both are ready, sign into your account ready to upload them. You must do this on results day if you can, so that your results can be reviewed by teaching staff.

Stage 2

Once your uploaded results have been reviewed by the teaching team, they will confirm whether you have met the published entry criteria for your chosen course, and you will get another email to confirm your place. This might not be on the same day as it will be very busy with lots of results coming in for staff to look at.

When you receive your confirmation, you will need to sign back into your account for the final time to secure your place, check and update your personal information, and complete your enrolment.

What if I want to change my subject area?

If you are certain that you don’t want to carry on with your first choice you should book an advice session appointment for your new subject choice using the appointment calendar which will appear below here from 10am on Thursday 20th August.

What do I do next?

Bookings for advice sessions will be available from 10am on Thursday 20th August. As soon as bookings have opened, you will be able to use the appointment calendar to book an advice session.

On the day you will need to bring evidence of your GCSE results with you.

Please ensure that you arrive 10-15 minutes before the start of your scheduled appointment in order to sign in.

Face coverings are required when you are inside any building on campus.

If you are exempt from wearing a face covering please bring proof of your exemption.

Due to the circumstances surrounding this years event, if you arrive late we are unable to allow appointments to overrun and you will only be able to discuss your options for the remainder of your allotted time.

If you turn up after your appointment was scheduled to finish or miss your appointment, then you will have to book a new appointment, which may not be on the same day depending on demand.

Appointments are limited this year. If you are unable to attend your appointment please let us know by contacting events@colchester.ac.uk or calling 01206 712026 so that we can reschedule or cancel your appointment and allow another learner to book onto it.

I haven’t made an application yet

Don’t worry. It’s not too late to start a full-time course with us this September.

If you have not yet made an application to study at Colchester Institute, or you have applied to another College but changed your mind, then these Advice Sessions are your chance to speak to a course tutor post-results day.

Remember to choose a subject that you’re interested in and something you enjoy, not because your friends have chosen it. You’ll make new friends on your new course and widen your social circles!

Whilst we cannot guarantee that a place will be available on your preferred choice at this late stage in the application cycle, we will help to get you sorted for September.
