Hair and Media Make-up Level 2

The Hair and Media Make-up Level 2 Technical Diploma aims to provide applicants with a range of essential technical and practical skills and knowledge, which will equip them to seek employment or further training within the industry. These skills include carrying out services such as applying make-up and body art design.

Alongside your main study programme you will also engage in activities to develop your English, maths and employability skills.

What does the Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Media Make-up qualification cover?

The Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Media Make-up qualification covers all the core skills learners will need to progress to further learning and training, or to enter the world of work within the hair and media make-up industry.

Mandatory Units (all must be completed)

  • Working in beauty related industries
  • Follow health and safety practice in the salon
  • Client care and communication in beauty related industries
  • Apply make-up
  • Provide eyelash and brow treatments
  • Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector
  • The art of photographic make- up
  • Body art design
  • Apply skin tanning techniques
  • The art of colouring hair
  • The art of dressing hair
  • Make and style a hair addition

We work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training. The different ways in which we could support your learning, by working with both local and national make-up businesses, include:

  • Structured work-experience or work-placements within their business
  • Classes or lectures given by industry experts
  • Employers input into projects and exercises, or are involved with setting assessments and examinations
  • Employers act as ‘expert witnesses’ to contribute to the assessment of your work.

Learning and Assessment Styles
Learning takes place through classroom activities, where you will be required to be models for peers within your group, demonstrations and working in a realistic environment for practical assessment and case studies, online examinations for each unit You are taught through a number of practical sessions and assessments, alongside classroom sessions and guided assignments.

You are required to complete and evidence work experience within the work place and self-study expected. You will also have the opportunity to participate in many exciting enrichment opportunities and the latest and upcoming trends.

4 GCSEs (grades A*-E.9-3), including English and Maths and an interview.
