Level 2: HABC Emergency First Aid at Work

This course is ideal for those who wish to become a First Aider in the workplace.

It is suitable for low hazard environments or where your needs assessment identifies a requirement for a first aider trained in emergency first aid at work.

Course Content

HABC Emergency First Aid at Work – Subjects covered:

understand the role of the first aider, including reference to:

  • the importance of preventing cross infection
  • the need for recording incidents and actions
  • use available equipment
  • assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure)
  • administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation, choking, wounded, bleeding or who is suffering from shock
  • provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds and small splinters)
  • provide appropriate first aid for other conditions (including the effects of heat and cold, epilepsy, diabetes, anaphylactic reactions, strains and sprains, bites and stings)

Assessment includes:

  • Practical demonstrations
  • Ongoing assessment – demonstrating practical first aid skills across a number of areas
  • Oral questions
      Ongoing questioning/discussion

Demonstrate knowledge

  • Roles & responsibility of a First Aider
  • Provide examples of how to minimise the risk of infection in self and others
  • Why its important to establish consent when providing first aid

  • Recovery position

  • Accident reporting – completion of accident report form

A Resuscitation manikin and First Aid Kit are provided for practical demonstrations
