Hairdressing Advanced Apprenticeship

The Hairdressing Advanced Apprenticeship is a level 3 qualification and is certificated by City & Guilds (C&G). The qualification meets the requirements of Habia, the body that sets standards for all hair and beauty qualifications, as well as industry codes of practice.

Candidates aged 16-18 years will be paid the minimum apprenticeship wage by their employer. Candidates aged 19 or over will be paid this wage for the first year of the Apprenticeship, and this will rise to meet national minimum wage criteria in their second year.

    • Creatively Dress Long Hair
    • Develop and Enhance Your Creative Hairdressing Skills
    • Create a Variety of Permed Effects
    • Provide Creative Hair Extension Services
    • Provide Specialist Consultation Services for Hair and Scalp Conditions
    • Provide Specialist Hair and Scalp Treatments
    • Contribute to the Financial Effectiveness of the Business
    • Support Customer Service Improvements
    • Contribute to the Planning and Implementation of Promotional Activities

As part of the Apprenticeship framework you will also study Employment Rights and Responsibilities, Personal Learning and Thinking Skills and Functional Skills Levels 2 or GCSEs in English and Math’s.

Entry Requirements

Candidates will be required to be employed in a hairdressing salon undertaking assistant stylist duties, and have a contract of employment with that salon. Ongoing training and assessments will be provided by the employer and college. Assessment in the workplace is an essential component of the programme.

Candidates will need to evidence a basic level of literacy and numeracy by participating in a simple screening procedure at interview. Any follow up support is individually negotiated as required. Candidates should have four GCSEs (grade A*-E), or equivalent, including Maths and English and satisfactory completion of the Hairdressing Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship.

Our Business Solutions team will work with you to recruit an Apprentice to your business, advertising the vacancy and managing applications, as well as providing a dedicated account manager and personal 1:1 advice and guidance on apprenticeships.

What will this cost my Business?

Non-levy paying employers will need to contribute 5% of the maximum funding band as published by the Skills Funding Agency for the delivery of training and assessment for their apprenticeship. Levy paying employers will pay the full cost of the agreed funding band using their Digital Apprenticeship account.

Employers with less than 50 employees who are recruiting an apprentice aged 16-18 years old will not be required to pay the contribution fee. Any associated cost to the individual will be made clear at the interview.
