Dental Nursing City & Guilds Diploma Level 3

This qualification meets the requirements of the GDC Legislation. Successful completion affords entry on to the Statutory Register.

This course gives learners the knowledge and skills in dental nursing both in direct chairside work and providing support in a range of dental treatments. Dental nurses help dentists with all aspects of patient care, from simple check-ups to advanced specialist treatment. Good people and teamwork skills, as well as a calm and reassuring manner are required.

Please note we are now able to offer full time and part-time apprenticeships in this subject.

What will I learn?

The course will cover core areas including Health and Safety, Cross Infection Control, Anatomy and Radiography.

How will I be assessed?

Classroom activities and work based assessment to produce a portfolio of competence. In addition to a portfolio, candidates will also undertake an external written examination “ The Award in Dental Nursing ”.

Career Opportunities

This qualification will enable candidates to register with the GDC as a dental nurse.

This qualification can help you to progress in, or to, a number of roles such as:

  • Dental hygienist
  • Dental nurse
  • Dental technician
  • Dental therapist.

Having completed this qualification, candidates may wish to work towards one of the many small qualifications available for continuing professional development, such as the Level 3 Certificate in Dental Decontamination

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be employed as a Dental Nurse. Achievement at Level 2 (i.e. GCSE A*-C) in English and science.

Upon successful submission of an application you will receive an acknowledgement email from our Admissions team. If you do not receive this you should contact the team to check that your application has been received.

We will begin to process applications for courses starting in the 2021-22 academic year from January 2021. During the spring-term applicants will receive further correspondence from the College about the next stages of the admissions process. These will include details about interviews with the course tutor or any pre-assessments and trades tests, which start to take place from May.
