Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice (CeMAP®)

Who is the course aimed at?

Individuals with an interest in a career providing mortgage advice or those wishing to do a refresher course. CeMAP is recognised by employers and clients as a mark of excellence and professionalism. It meets the FCA examination standards for providing advice on mortgage products and is an approved qualification in the mortgage advice apprenticeship standards.

Entry Requirements

Although there are no specific entry requirements, the level of achievement required to obtain the award is equivalent to that of GCSE level qualifications. Applicants need to be satisfied of their ability to study, in Maths and English, at this level.

What will I learn?

CeMAP consists of three modules which give you an extensive knowledge of the UK financial regulation mortgages policy and practice and how to apply this as effective mortgage advice to the consumer. The unitised structure creates a clear learning path.

Module 1, UK Financial Regulation

UK Financial Regulation (UKFR) is a broad-based module that focuses upon the purpose and structure of the

UK financial services structure.

The module is split into 2 units, focusing on the financial services environment and regulation of the environment respectively.

Module 2, Mortgages

The Mortgages (MORT) module is split into 4 units and focuses upon law, practice policy and markets, application, payments methods and products and post-completion issues.

Module 3, Assessment of Mortgage Advice Knowledge Details
The Assessment of Mortgage Advice Knowledge (ASSM) module requires you to apply the knowledge and understanding of the first 2 modules, by applying suitable mortgage solutions within the regulatory and ethical framework.

How will I be assessed?

UK Financial Regulation is assessed by a 2-hour, 100-question, multiple-choice examination split into 2 units each containing 50 questions. You must achieve a minimum of 70% to pass each unit. If you don’t gain 70% in either unit within the module you will have to resit. You only need to resit any failed units.

Mortgages is assessed by a 2-hour, 100-question multiple-choice examination split into 4 units each comprising 25 questions. You must achieve a minimum of 68% to pass each unit. If you don’t gain 68% in any of the 4 units you will have to resit them. You only need to resit any failed units.

Assessment of Mortgage Advice Knowledge is assessed by a 2-hour, multiple-choice examination comprising 6 case studies each containing 10 questions. You must achieve a minimum of 70% to pass this module. These examinations are delivered electronically with results given immediately.
