This qualification is perfect for young people and those taking their first step on the career ladder. As well as getting a taster of what it’s like to work in a professional environment, you will pick up accounting terms and get support with literacy and numeracy.

The Level 1 AAT Award gives students a comprehensive understanding to work within the finance and accountancy profession. Gaining this qualification provides the gateway to work in small local firms to large, multinational companies.

After successfully completing this course, students have the option to progress to the AAT Accounting Certificate Level 2.

Course Content

Covering core accounting and finance areas, successful completion of the qualification will help students to develop their skills across the following four units.

  • Understanding the role of the bookkeeper
  • Understanding financial transactions
  • Process customer and supplier transactions
  • Process receipts and payments

The skills developed by studying this qualification will give students a solid base from which to seek employment with greater confidence or enable them to progress to the next level of learning.

Students must successfully complete one end-of-qualification computerised assessment to achieve this qualification. The proportion of this qualification assessed by external assessment is 100%. Delivery will be through traditional classroom style.

The skills developed in this qualification can lead to employment in junior or supporting administrative roles in companies across a wide range of sectors, for example, as a:

  • trainee bookkeeper
  • accounts administrator
