Colchester Institute receives MoD Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award for 2017
Colchester Institute has been awarded the MoD Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award for 2017. The scheme acknowledges employers who have provided outstanding support to the Armed Forces by demonstrating support to those who serve or have served.
With our largest campus situated in a garrison town, the College recognises the importance of working in partnership with the military and providing current and ex-military personnel with training, careers guidance and support. This is not the first time we have publicly highlighted our commitment to the Armed Forces, with the Armed Forces Covenant signing taking place earlier this year. Principal and Chief Executive, Alison Andreas signed the covenant alongside Commander of Colchester Garrison, Lieutenant Colonel Ciaran Griffin OBE LANCS in June 2017.
The College has successfully begun to fulfil its commitment through the introduction of a Foundation Property Management course, developed in conjunction with partner organisation ‘Building Heroes’. The course is specifically designed to provide service leavers with the skills needed to enter employment in the building trades.
Organisations need to meet extensive criteria in order to be eligible for a Silver award. They must employ at least one person who is a member of the Armed Forces community as outlined in the Armed Forces Covenant, as well as showing support for service personnel issues and flexibility towards training and supporting the employment of those associated with the Armed Forces.
Representatives of Colchester Institute will be accepting the award at a ceremony taking place at Fitzwilliam College in Cambridge on 23rd November 2017.
