Wednesday 2nd December at 7.30pm
Rev Simpkins and The Phantom Notes
Blues/Progressive Folk

The quirky English charm of the Reverend’s freaked-up finger-picked folk has built him a devout following since the Phantoms’ initial apparition in autumn 2008. His debut album Babbler & Crow has attracted national acclaim for its unique mix of folk in the style of Nick Drake, pop song-smithery in the tradition of The Kinks, and the freak blues of Captain Beefheart being recommended by fROOTS as “High octane stuff...unique musical style and literate words performed with energy and passion.” Featuring half of raucous mod band FuzzFace, the Phantom Notes includes in its number a free-jazz saxophonist, a brass band, a tap dancer, a string quartet and a theremin player, but no two line-ups are ever the same so expect the unexpected!
"...the most important original musical talent to emerge from Colchester since Blur..." Martin Newell, East Anglian Daily Times
