Rainer Hersch – All Classical Music Explained

Brilliant British comic Rainer Hersch’s simple and stupid approach to a difficult subject! Is the triangle hard? What do conductors actually do? …and why classical music is so much like sex.
Swinburne Hall is delighted to welcome back sell-out comedian and musician Rainer Hersch, an annual favourite with our audiences, with his one-man show All Classical Music Explained. All Classical Music Explained, became an instant hit when it premièred at the Edinburgh Festival; a 55 date tour across three continents followed, numerous international television appearances ensued and the show has become a series on BBC radio.
All Classical Music Explained is an erudite and witty journey through the world of classical music, peppered with irreverent spoofs and the common touch. The show combines Rainer’s long established skills as a top rank stand-up comedian, his virtuosity as a pianist and his fanaticism for the 12 Events Hotline 01206 712999 world’s most beautiful music - although he is quick to point out that whoever is in the audience will get the joke, even if they wouldn’t know a string quartet from a string vest.
Rainer Hersch, a trained classical pianist, began his working life as an agent to some of the world’s great orchestras - his last official job title was Touring Manager of the London Festival Orchestra. However, unknown to his employers, he had also started appearing as a stand-up comedian on the London comedy circuit, devoting himself to full-time comedy in 1992.
Since then Rainer has performed on every major comedy stage in Britain and abroad. He has appeared twelve times at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
