Musical Theatre Workshop presents

Oklahoma!

Music: Richard Rodgers
Lyrics & Book: Oscar Hammerstein II
Director: Ian Ray

Following on from last year’s sparkling production of My Fair Lady, our workshop production this year is Oklahoma. This pivotal work, a milestone in the history of American Musical Theatre, based on the stage play Green Grow the Lilacs by Lynn Riggs, is a dynamic and colourful celebration of the American pioneering spirit as depicted in the lives of the American Southwest community. It tells the story of young cowboy Curly McLain and his would-be sweetheart, farm girl Laurey Williams, both struggling to admit their feelings for one another whilst fending off the interference of a crooked ranch hand and a roaming peddler. Meanwhile, Curly’s fellow cowboy Will Parker has very different problems with his girlfriend and her tendency to sway towards other men. As the drama unfolds, a bloody end is looming …will either relationship reach a happy conclusion…?
