Wednesday 18th November at 7.30pm
Dead Rat Orchestra
Electronic and experimental
The Dead Rat Orchestra does not claim to push musical boundaries, but is uniquely able to play using its entire venue as a sound source, creating with anything it can draw a sound from: guitar, accordion, balloons, cattle grids, feedback, celeste, tubular bells, toy birds and whatever it just found in the street outside the venue. The Orchestra equates concert violins with wineglasses, air vents with copper records, mammoth organ pipes with eskimo kisses. The exploration of these instruments creates music of constantly varying form as the Orchestra mutters, shuffles and searches for and develops those moments when it all just seems to fit. The result is resonant, joyous, beautiful and sad. Improvisation is key and no matter what structure is created, the performers are always free to stray.
