Subsidised Travel Scheme 2010/2011

COLCHESTER INSTITUTE INTERSITE BUSES WILL BE RUNNING AS FOLLOWS. Please contact Student Services 01206 712078 for an inter site timetable

Morning:  

  • Clacton  to Colchester
  • Braintree to Colchester
  • Colchester to Braintree

Afternoon:

  • Colchester to Clacton
  • Braintree to Colchester
  • Colchester to Braintree

£1 per single journey

Tickets must be purchased in advance (students cannot purchase tickets on the bus) from the following sites:

  • Braintree campus: College Shop / Information Centre
  • Clacton campus (Church Rd) : Reception
  • Colchester campus: College Shop / Registry

Students must produce a ticket and valid student ID on boarding the bus.

Initially tickets will go on sale during enrolment and will be available for purchase throughout the year.

Colchester Institute Travel Scheme

If travel assistance is  refused by the local authority, students may be eligible to apply to the Colchester Institute Travel Scheme.  We have contracts with First Bus, Network Colchester, Hedingham Omnibuses, Chamber Buses and National Express trains.  To qualify for the Colchester Institute Travel Scheme students must meet the following criteria:

  • Not eligible or have been refused by the local authority’s travel scheme (rejection letter must be provided if student is 16-19 years)
  • Live more than three miles away from your place of study
  • Be enrolled on a full time publicly funded further education course
  • Have been resident in the UK for the last three years

Local Education Authority Schemes

Students living in Essex may be entitled to Post 16 Transport Assistance from Essex County Council.

There is a charge of £485 per year although this may be waived for low income families
