Subsidised Travel Scheme
Colchester Institute offers a subsidised Travel Scheme, where students can purchase a bus or train pass for travel to and from College, at a reduced price. The operators that are part of the Colchester Institute travel scheme are First Bus, Hedingham, Network Colchester, Chambers and National Express trains.
The scheme is available to all full-time, home fee students, studying a Further Education course. Full-time Higher Education and Non-European Union students can obtain a travel pass through the scheme, however due to funding issues the passes can only be offered at cost price (this is usually cheaper than paying a daily rate).
Where the same course is offered at The College at Clacton, or Sheepen Road, Colchester, subsidised travel will only be available to the place of study nearest the home postcode.
PLEASE NOTE! Passes can only be supplied from destinations nearest to the home address.
Alternative Options
Students in receipt of a means tested benefit in their own right or as a dependant should contact Essex County Council in the first instance, as they may be able to offer financial assistance.
Students travelling from Clacton can use the intersite bus which is free of charge to anyone showing a valid Colchester Institute student card. Students are advised to check with local bus/train companies the most cost effective method of transport as they may be able to purchase a pass direct from the operator.
