Top musician judges composers' competition
Philip Cashian, Head of Composition at the Royal Academy of Music, is adjudicating a top composers’ competition at Colchester Institute on Wednesday 18th March, at 7.30pm, in the Swinburne Hall, Colchester.
The Roy Teed Cup for Composition 2009 is a competition for original composition open to all students currently studying on Music National Diploma, Foundation/BA (Hons) Music and MA Music programmes at Colchester Institute. This year the College is proud to welcome along Philip Cashian to judge the final round at the evening performance at the Swinburne Hall; where he will announce the winner and present the award to one lucky composer.
All performers, accompanists and conductors taking part in the competition are students studying at the College. Over the past few weeks they have been working hard in rehearsals to put the final touches to their compositions and performances ready for the competition this week.
Mark Bellis, Lecturer in Music, says “I am absolutely delighted that Philip Cashian is adjudicating The Roy Teed Cup for Composition this year. He will be looking for pieces of work which are both imaginative and effective as a composition in a concert situation. I am really looking forward to hearing the individual works and am expecting to enjoy some wonderful original music!”
The Roy Teed Cup for Composition 2009 is one of many events taking place as part of ‘Competitions Fortnight’ (Monday 9th March to Friday 20th March) within the Centre for Music and Performing Arts at the College.
