Sports students hold spectacular fundraising event

Sports students from Colchester Institute have organised a three day fundraising extravaganza all in the name of charity. The 20 second year students, studying for a National Diploma in Sport, were required to organise fundraising activities in order to raise money for future events throughout the year. A high percentage of the money collected will be donated to Cancer Research UK this Christmas.  Amy Harrington, 18, a student at the College says: ‘‘We have big events later on this year in which we need to raise money, for example, the annual Sports Awards, events with local primary schools and the women’s football final. We thought it would be a great idea to combine this with raising money for charity.’’ Neil Owen, course tutor within the Centre for Business and Management says: ‘‘All the students worked really hard to organise the three day event. Let’s hope they raised a fantastic amount of money for their future events and for Cancer Research!’’  The events were kicked off with a marathon run on Wednesday 15th December. Each student was required to take a turn in running on the treadmill which was located in the Main Reception at the Sheepen Road, Colchester Campus. It was then students versus staff all the way in basketball, football and netball matches hosted at the College.  Day two continued with charity matches in dodgeball and handball. The students then put on a brave face by dressing up as leprechauns. To top it all off, a sports quiz was held to help raise the final burst of money!  Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. Their groundbreaking work has so far saved millions of lives.
