Spectacular hair and beauty competition wows College

Students from the Centre for Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy put on a fabulous competition on Wednesday 3rd March, at Colchester Institute’s Sheepen Road Campus.

Level 1 and 2 Beauty Therapy students were given the theme ‘International’ while the level 3 Hairdressing students will show off their talents with the theme ‘Seasons/Culture.’ The students showcased their creations during an evening catwalk in the Main Hall of the College.

Phillipa Cronin, Head of Centre for Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy says: ‘‘The students work really hard throughout the year, but especially so for this event. It’s great to see their creativity shine through – their unique ideas are always something to talk about.’’

What’s more, the Centre also welcomed exchange students from Italy on Monday 1st March who also took part in the glitzy affair. They will spend two weeks at the College as part of a competition students from Colchester Institute won.

The Italian students will experience life as a hairdresser in this country, as well as developing their language skills. Colchester Institute students will then reciprocate the visit by travelling to Italy in May

The judges on the evening included an array of well known names in the field. For the beauty side they had; Laura Styles from Mac Cosmetics at Williams & Griffin, Louise Young (Freelance make-up artist) and Sarah Harris Elite Hair and Beauty Suppliers. The judges for the hairdressing competition were Jo Gent and Debra Flack (new hairdressing assessors at Colchester Institute) and Claire Pollard, who is from Capital Hair and Beauty Supplies located in Ipswich.
