Top chef to judge cookery competition
Students on the Professional Chefs Level 3 course have been working hard over the past few months to design and prepare a perfect dish that will impress Mr Nugent in the final competition next week. Other members joining Mr Nugent on the judging panel will be; Stuart Allan from Indulgence Patisserie, Sarah Norman from Milsom Hotel and Restaurants, and Jason Sant from Colchester Institute.
Students have been learning how to successfully develop their food products for supermarkets, over the past few weeks, as part of their product development unit. On Monday, they will have to formally present their ideas to the panel and cook their dishes under tough competition conditions, where the ultimate test will be in the tasting!
Students studying on the course have been following a similar process as seen on the successful TV series ‘Breaking into Tesco’; where ambitious cooks learn how to turn their favourite signature dishes into products fit for the shelves of the supermarket giant. The winning student will have their dish transformed into a prototype that could be sold in any high street supermarket.
Waitrose Executive Chef, Neil Nugent says: “At Waitrose we are passionate about food and are always excited to talk to people about how to develop dishes and the process involved in getting these onto our supermarket shelves. I’m delighted to have been asked to be involved in the course and am looking forward to seeing and tasting the products that the students have come up with.”
Chef lecturer at CH&FS, Jason Sant, said, “This unique industry link between Colchester Institute, Indulgence Patisserie, Milsoms and Waitrose is incredibly exciting, as students will receive expert advice from leading industry figures on their own unique dishes. This week the students have been putting the finishing touches to their dishes and are getting everything ready to meet the judges on Monday.”
