English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

Who can join this course?

The ESOL courses are for people whose first language is not English and who live and/or work in the UK. Students will have the opportunity to develop their English speaking and listening, and reading and writing skills for a variety of purposes, including employment, further study or communicating with English speaking friends and family.

Students who are classed as 'overseas' for fees purposes will be charged a higher rate of tuition, if you are unsure you can contact the International Admissions Officer on 01206 712158 for more information.

Which class will I be in?

Both day and evening classes are currently offered. Placement is dependant on the result of a written and oral assessment at the start of the course, and on the availability of places. The assessment will determine which class is the most suitable level for each person, and an indvidual learning plan will be agreed with the class tutor. Further information will be available after an initial assessment and interview.

Can I take an examination?

Students will be entered for the nationally recognised and accredited ESOL Skills for Life qualifications offered at Entry levels 1, 2, 3 and Levels 1 and 2. The new ESOL for Work qualifications will also be available.
