MPS Vehicle Refinishers of East Gates, Colchester, is an auto vehicle repair company, that, for the last ten years, has been repairing commercial vehicles damaged in accidents. The company has worked with Colchester Institute for seven years, having put three of its employees through the Body Repair Apprenticeship and Advanced Apprenticeship programmes at the College.

Martyn Smith, Company Director, told us he was aware of Colchester Institute’s good reputation and with the close proximity of the College to the business he knew it was the best choice for the company’s apprentices. MPS has previous experience working with other training providers, having had two longstanding employees complete their apprenticeships elsewhere, but they told us that they would not have recommended these to other employees.

Martyn said: “There is good communication between ourselves and the College; Colchester Institute provides good information and the staff are always very professional and flexible to our needs. The feedback we get about our apprentices always matches the view we have of them, which is reassuring to know.”

Mr Smith also told us that it was a benefit to the employee to gain the relevant qualifications to support them in their careers, and believes that it is important to support young workers in gaining the skills they need to put their expertise back into the industry. “I find employees who go through the apprenticeship programmes pay more attention and are more focused in the workplace”, he said.
