Course Description:

This course is intended for students who have a strong interest in photography and are intending to pursue a career in the photography industry.

During this course students will take a broad approach to photography and carry out projects which will allow them to experiment with different techniques.

This course will consist of both theoretical and practical assignments which will be developed through classroom and workshop activity, demonstrations, group and individual tutorials, and independent learning.

In addition students will study at least one functional skill in English, mathematics or ICT as part of their main programme.

  • Business Practice in the Photo Imaging Industry
  • Introduction to Legislation for the Photo Imaging Industry
  • Photo Imaging Equipment and Materials
  • Principles of Photo Image Capture
  • Principles of Studio Photography
  • Principles of Photo Imaging Management and Storage
  • Principles of Photo Imaging Printing
  • Presenting Photo Images
  • Working to a Photo Imaging Project Brief

Entry Requirements:

Normally a minimum of 3 GCSE's grades D or above or Level 1 Diploma in a related subject. Interview with examples of photographic work and the ability to communicate ideas and an enthusiasm for photography.

Career Opportunities:

Employment within the photographic industry.

Course Progression:

This one year course will prepare and guide students to progress on to a level 3 qualification, which, in turn, can be the stepping stone to university.
