Course Description:
This programme is aimed at students wishing to acquire a range of media skills to help them develop a career in the media related industries. This course will include written assignments and research through active learning, both in class and through independent learning, demonstrations, group and individual tutorials. There is a residential film making project in the second year.
In addition students will study at least one functional skill in English, mathematics or ICT as part of their main programme.

- Understanding the Media
- Research Techniques
- Professional Practice in the Media Industry
- Photography and Analysis
- Web Design
- Working Freelance in the Industry
- How to Run a Small Business
Entry Requirements:
Normally 5 GCSEs (grades A*-C) including English Language, or equivalent, or appropriate aptitude in the case of mature applicants, or BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media Production with at least one unit at merit level. Interview with a portfolio of art/design work.
Career Opportunities:
Employment within the media, journalism and print publishing industries.
Course Progression:
Typical progression would be to a degree course in a range of media subjects such as the BA (Hons) degree in Art and Design: Film and Video at Colchester Institute.
