Course Description:

This course will provide the opportunity to develop practical vocational skills, knowledge and understanding for work in the expanding area of leisure, recreation and outdoor activities.

This flexible course gives a broad introduction that not only explores the various career pathways but also examines the Key Skills required to succeed at work.

A variety of learning styles are developed. These include formal class learning, group work, presentation and individual tutorials relating to the assignment programme.

In addition, students will study at least one Functional Skill in English, maths or ICT as part of their main programme.

I was really keen to come here to train with the team and to get my National Diploma in Sport.

Course Content:

Potential units covered include:

  • The Sports Industry
  • Health, Safety and Injury
  • Preparation for Sport
  • Sports Leadership Skills
  • Expedition Skills (including navigation and outdoor adventurous activities such as skiing).

Entry Requirements:

Normally a minimum of 4 GCSEs (grades D-E) including English, maths and one other at grade D. A general interest in sport outdoor activities and the motivation to succeed.

Career Opportunities:

There is a wide range of careers from immediate employment as a junior in a leisure, sports or outdoor pursuits centre, to management in diverse organisations with further study.

Course Progression:

The full BTEC Level 2 Diploma (Merit) enables access to the BTEC Subsidiary Diploma/Diploma in Sport or a Diploma in Sports Coaching and Facility Operations.
