Course Description:
The course is suitable for students who wish to take an initial qualification and follow a career in the health and social care services. Work experience placements are a valuable part of the course. Students apply learning in a practical and realistic way, develop skills that are highly valued by employers and gain confidence by developing independent learning skills.
Delivery is through a mixture of lectures, assignments, seminar presentations, resource based learning, research, personal study and tutorials. Work experience placements are a significant element of the course (60 hours contact time is required).
In addition students will study at least one functional skill in English, mathematics or ICT as part of their main programme.

Entry Requirements:
Normally a minimum of 4 GCSEs (grades C-D) including English language or introductory Diploma (Distinction) of GNVQ Foundation (Merit), plus a successful interview, satisfactory Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) enhanced check and excellent references. Completion of a basic skills assessment.
Career Opportunities:
Employment in healthcare industries.
Course Progression:
Further education progression opportunities such as the CACHE Diploma in Childcare and Education (Merit required), National Diploma in Health and Social Care (Merit required), or National Diploma in Health Studies (Merit plus C/C in science GCSE required). Progression to Level 3 requires English and Maths at Grade C as well as Merit in the Level 2. Please note: There is a charge of £36 for a CRB check.
